Biography

Prior to World War II Zygmunt Ginter played ice hockey for Ognisko Vilnius in Lithuania before representing Legia Warszawa after the war ended. Internationally Ginter represented the Polish ice hockey team on nine occasions. In 1948 he was a last-minute addition to the Polish squad for the St. Moritz Olympics, replacing Tadeusz Dolewski. This change, however, was not revealed for more than 50 years, with the Official Report listing Dolewski as playing, but he was removed from the squad due to political reasons. At the Olympics Ginter played in the matches against Czechoslovakia and Great Britain, which saw Poland lose both games.
