Austrian equestrian rider Gerhard Egger was a member of the show jumping team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, riding Mimir. The team did not finish the competition as Rudolf Trenkwitz could not finish the course. Individually, Egger placed 37th. He was killed in action close to the end of World War II, in April 1945. He lost his life in Italy as a member of the Aufklärungs-Abteilung 263. He is buried in Italy in the German war cemetery at Costermano.
