Biography

Belorussian fencer Nikolay Alyokhin represented the Soviet Union during his active career. He was world champion in the sabre team competition at Melbourne in 1979 and runner-up at in Clermont-Ferrand in 1981. In between, he reached the team final at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, in which the Soviet team defeated Italy 9-2. Together with Mikhail Burtsev, Viktor Krovopuskov, Viktor Sidyak and Vladimir Nazlymov, Alyokhin was Olympic champion, although Alyokhin only fenced in the preliminary round match against Romania.
