Biography

Kim Chong-Ha served as both the President of the Korean Handball Federation (KHF) and the National Olympic Committee of South Korea. In the latter, Kim served in the role from April 1985 to February 1989, with South Korea hosting the Games in Seoul during his tenure. Kim began his sporting career in handball, representing the Korea Military Academy from 1954 to 1956. By 1973 he had become the Vice President of the KHF, eventually becoming their President in 1981. During his time as President of South Korea’s Olympic Committee he also took part in discussions between North and South Korea as the chief delegate of sports dialogue between the two nations. For his work he was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver in 1988. In 1992 Kim became Asia’s representative on the International Handball Federation’s council before being awarded an honorary membership four years later.
