Biography

In addition to having a sculpture of his on display at the National Museum of Anthropology in the Mexican capital, Íker Larrauri was also a painter, anthropologist, architect, archaeologist, illustrator, and museographer. After studying at both the National Schools of Architecture and Anthropology, Larrauri visited the ruins of the archaeological temples in Palenque where he made paintings of the various chambers.

In 1955 Larrauri began working at an anthropology museum, receiving a scholarship the following year, and then visiting multiple museums across Europe. On his return to Mexico he began to specialise in the design of museums. In the late 1970s he founded his own company dedicated in the field of museography. Larrauri’s team worked on a project at the Louvre Museum in Paris and at the Olympic Museum of Lausanne. For his work at the latter he was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver in 1993.
