Biography

Throughout his career Fernando Beltranena was dedicated to the development of sport all across Guatemala. From 1993 to 2009 Beltranena served as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Guatemala, with him being awarded with the Pierre de Coubertin medal by the IOC in 2007. He was also the Vice-President of both the Autonomous Sports Confederation of Guatemala and Panam Sports. Away from sport Beltranena was a noted ophthalmologist, spending much of his time working with a foundation to help the blind.
