Pál Keméry

Pál Keméry was a military officer. As a Hussar officer of the Austro-Hungarian Army he fought in World War I. As an athlete, he was a student at the Equestrian Teacher Training Institute in Wien (Vienna). Keméry was one of the founders of the Hungarian Equestrian Association in 1924. As a member of the literary council of the equestrian sports magazine “Szent György”, he published extensively. In the 1930s, he represented Hungary at the General Assembly of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI).

In 1928, as a member of the Hungarian Olympic team, Keméry traveled to Amsterdam, but their dressage team withdrew at the last minute, so he did not compete. He finished 26th in individual dressage and sixth with the team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In recognition of his achievements with the dressage team, the Hungarian Minister of Defense honored him after the Olympics.

After World War II, Keméry took part in the reorganization of the Hungarian Equestrian Association. In 1955, he was one of the coaches of the athletes preparing for the Olympics. He was involved in writing the textbooks “Dressage and Riding and Driving”. For several years after his death, a dressage competition was named for him.
