Carl Kruckenberg was the eldest son of a businessman in Jönköping, who pursued a military career. In 1907, he became a lieutenant with the Småland Hussars stationed in Eksjö. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, he placed eighth in the dressage. Later, he was promoted to the rank of cavalry captain and was appointed Knight of the Order of the Sword. Kruckenberg was married to Anna Maria Sædén but the marriage remained childless.
