Biography

Peter Leone was a show jumper who won a silver medal with the USA team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. When he was only 20, Leone won the International Jumping Derby in Newport, Rhode Island, considered the most prestigious jumping event in the United States. He graduated from Drew University, and was named to the US Equestrian Team in 1982, competing on it for over two decades. In 1982 he helped the United States place fourth at the World Equestrian Games.

In 1997 Leone was named to the US Team for a European Tour. He helped the USA win the Nations’ Cup at Rotterdam, and individually won the Derby at Valkeswaard. He was on the USA team that won the inaugural Samsung Nations’ Cup Series in 1997. Leone’s greatest weekend probably came in 1999, when he won two Grand Prix titles over world-class fields in Germany.

Leone settled in Greenwich, Connecticut where he owned Lionshare Farm, an equestrian property where he trained horses and coached riders. Lionshare Farm consisted of a 36-stall show barn with an upper-level lounge with views of the indoor riding ring, 14 grass paddocks, a jumping derby field, two outdoor riding rings, and a pond.
