Robert Bintz’s first major road cycling victory came in 1948, when he won the Luxembourg national championships. He also represented his country at that year’s London Olympics but did not finish the road race. After excelling as an amateur over the next two years, including winning the inaugural Flèche du Sud in 1949 and defending his national title twice more, he turned professional in 1951 and competed in his first edition of the Tour de France, with a best placement of 11th in Stage 3. After another professional season in 1952, which included an 11th place finish at the World Championships, he had limited participation in 1953 and 1954, before retiring from active competition.
