Edgar Walton was a member of the Bradford Gymnastics Club that won the national team title in 1935. Previously he had been the Yorkshire amateur champion in 1927 and 1928. Walton did his selection for the Amsterdam Olympics no harm with an excellent performance in the Olympic trial at Bootle (Liverpool) in December 1927. An outstanding performer on the parallel bars, he went on to win the Northern Counties overall title, and in 1930 was third in the national championship.
