Biography

Tamotsu Chikanari was a Japanese cyclist who was active in the early 1950s. In 1952 Chikanari was selected to participate at the Helsinki Olympics, competing on both the road and track. In the velodrome he was part of the quartet in the 4,000 metres team pursuit, and paired with Kihei Tomioka in the 2,000 metres tandem sprint. The same year as the Olympics he also competed in the road race at the World Championships in Paris, but withdrew halfway through. Chikanari was best known as a keirin cyclist, being a member of the national keirin school.
