In 1951 Japanese cyclist Kihei Tomioka won two gold medals at the Asian Games in New Delhi, with victory in the road race and the 4,000 metres team pursuit on the track. The performances earned Tomioka a place at the Olympics for the 1952 Helsinki Games. He participated in the individual road race, along with the sprint, tandem sprint, and the 4,000 metres team pursuit on the track. Tomioka later opened his own bicycle shop in his hometown of Hachinohe.
