George Crompton worked as a messenger for the Canadian National Telegraph (CNT) in Toronto and was also a member of the Maple Leaf Bike Club. An excellent track cyclist, Crompton had multiple podium finishes at various races, including second in the two-mile race at the 1934 Canadian Cycling Championships. With his consistent results Crompton was selected as part of the quartet for the 4,000 metres team pursuit at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
