In 1970 Fernando Cuenca won silver in the team pursuit at the Bolivarian Games in Maracaibo. Two years later Cuenca was selected to represent Peru in cycling at the München Olympics. Whilst he did not finish in the road race, he did place 30th in the team time trial with his compatriots.
