Ferry Dusika

Ferry Dusika was an Austrian cyclist, and from 1926 was one of the most successful short course riders at the time. He participated in the 1928 Amsterdam and 1936 Berlin Olympics. At Amsterdam he finished 15th in the 1,000 meters time trial and lost his first-round match in the tandem sprint (with August Schaffer) to the Dutch team. At Berlin, he was eliminated in the second-round of the sprint and also partnered Alfred Mohr in the tandem sprint, but they lost their first-round match. At the 1932 World Championships, Dusika finished fourth in the sprint. From 1933-37 he won ten national championships and several international competitions. In 1942, he was runner-up at the German championships.

After his active career Dusika owned a bicycle shop at Wien (Vienna) and organized several cycling events in Austria. He also managed Austrian cyclists, wrote cycling textbooks, and worked as a cycling reporter for several magazines. Dusika also became one of the pioneers of producing whole foods for cyclists. He was a famous member of the Wiener (Vienna) society.

Between 2011-13 a Wiener (Vienna) historical commission found out that Dusika was awarded the “Aryanized” business of the Jewish bicycle dealer Abraham Adolf Blum in 1939. He was an active member of the German Nazi party NSDAP and SA-Oberscharführer. It was confirmed by the commission that he had spread National Socialist and anti-Semitic ideas and served the Nazi regime.
