Brent Emery was a track racer who won three national titles, in the kilometre time trial in 1980-81 and the 1983 points race. He continued to compete after his high-level career, winning four American Bicycle Racing (ABR) Masters Championships. In 1981 he won the 10th stage at the Tour of Chile, recording a speed of 30.2 mph for the 174 km (108 miles) stage, a world best for a stage over 100 miles which stood for almost 15 years.
Emery later took over the bike shop his parents had founded in 1963, Emerys Cycling, Triathlon & Fitness Shops, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and co-owns the business with his brother, Bennett. Brent Emery has also been a pioneer in new cycling technology, and was one of the first to promote the use of aero bars for time trialing and triathlons. He has also devoted his time to Variety The Children’s Charity, adapting bicycles for children with special needs. In 2011, Emery received the Presidential Award for Service from Variety International at their World Conference, recognizing his work with special needs children.
