Tord Filipsson

As a time trial specialist Tord Filipsson won multiple national titles in Sweden, earned gold at the UCI Road World Championships, and competed at two Olympic Games. Filipsson began his career with wins in both the junior individual time trial and youth team time trial races at the Swedish championships in 1968. Two years later he won his first senior title at the national championships with victory in the team time trial. In 1972 Filipsson won the individual time trial and the team time trial titles at the Swedish championships, in addition to taking the team time trial title at the Nordic Championships. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team, where he placed sixth in the team time trial with his compatriots at the München Olympics.

In 1973 the quartet of Filipsson, Lennart Fagerlund, Leif Hansson, and Sven-Åke Nilsson won bronze in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Barcelona. The following year Filipsson, Fagerlund, Nilsson, and Bernt Johansson won gold in the same event at the Road World Championships in Montréal. Filipsson then won four consecutive individual time trial titles at the Swedish championships from 1974 to 1979. During the decade he also won stages at the Milk Race in England, as well as the overall classification of the 1975 Tour of Sweden. Filipsson made his second appearance at the Olympics one year later, this time finishing seventh in the team time trial at the Montréal Games. His sister Sylvia represented Sweden in speed skating at three Olympic Games.
