Biography

Between his two Olympic performances, Bernt Johansson was Swedish road champion in 1974 both as an amateur and in the open race. That year he also led Sweden to the World Title in the team time trial. After winning the 1976 Olympic road race, Johansson turned pro and rode thru 1981.

He had eight victories as a professional, mostly in minor races. But he was a solid stage racer, placing third at the 1979 Giro d’Italia and second at the 1978 Giro de Lombardia. His best finish in a classic was third in the 1979 Flèche-Wallonne race.
