Luxembourg cyclist Paul Frantz had his first major success when he won the 1935 edition of the Grand Prix François Faber one-day race. One year later Frantz finished eighth in the amateur race at the UCI World Championships in Bern, Switzerland. These results earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1936 Berlin Games where he competed in the road race. He continued to compete in races for a couple more years, winning the GP Lacroix and the Nancy – Strasbourg races in France in 1938, in addition to finishing second in the Luxembourg national road race in the same year.
