Bill Freund attended Mumford High School in Michigan. He qualified for the 1960 Olympic road race by placing third in the US Olympic Trials in the second qualifying race. After the 1960 Olympics Freund opened Bill Freund’s Olympic Schwinn Fitness Center in Oak Park, Michigan and ran it for over 50 years. More of a sprinter than a road racer, Freund’s major road win was the 1964 Grand Rapids to Muskegon Cyclethon.
