Biography
Henry George participated in World War I as a carbine cyclist in the Russian campaign. At the end of the war he was severely wounded in Belgium, and was awarded one of the highest military awards. At the 1920 Olympics in Antwerpen George won the 50 km track race, which had a dramatic finish when leader Thomas Harvey collided with George 200 metres from the line. In 1919 George was third in the Belgian road championships and he was runner-up in 1921.
