Cyclist Hans Hoffmann was a member of the German pursuit team together with Erich Arndt, Heinz Haßelberg and Karl Klöckner, which lost the bronze medal race against Great Britain at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Arndt was the one who tailed-off from his fellow team members on the penultimate lap. In the semi-final the team was beaten by France by more than 12 seconds. Hoffmann and Klöckner became German tandem champions in 1935. Sadly, Hoffmann and was killed-in-action during the last days of World War II in Berlin 1945.
