Cyclist Karl Klöckner was a member of the German pursuit team together with Erich Arndt, Heinz Haßelberg and Hans Hoffmann, which lost the bronze medal race against Great Britain at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Arndt was the one who tailed-off from his fellow team members on the penultimate lap. In the semi-final the team was beaten by France by more than 12 seconds. Klöckner and Hoffmann became German tandem champions in 1935.
