When he was 14-years-old Peter Hric began riding in cyclo-cross before competing in road cycling, finishing fourth in the latter at the 1985 edition of the Tour of Slovakia. Even with his early success on the road, Hric’s main passion was with mountain biking, which saw him win bronze at the 1983 Junior World Championships. As a senior competitor he came fourth at the 1989 World Championships, before winning bronze at the 1993 European Mountain Bike Championships. His consistent performances earned him a place on Slovakia’s team for the 1996 Atlanta Games, where the sport made its Olympic début. Unfortunately for Hric he suffered a puncture on the first lap of the race and lost considerable time to repair it, finishing down in 30th place. From the early 1990s he lived in Luxembourg where he worked as a designer in the automotive industry.
