In the early 1930s Latvian cyclist Arvīds Immermanis had success on both the road and track, winning several national titles. Immermanis won his first title in 1934 when he became the national sprint champion in the velodrome. In 1935 and 1937 he won the Latvian team time trial championship on the road. From 1936 to 1938 Immermanis won the first three editions of the Unity Ride in Latvia race. His strong performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the road race at the Berlin Games.
For his day job Immermanis worked at the G. Ērenpreis Bicycle Factory in Rīga, the largest company of its type in the Baltics. In January 1945, however, he was arrested by the NKVD, who deported him to Siberia where he eventually died in July 1947.
