Chauchat was a famous military engineer (graduated X’1883) who created the machine gun which bears his name and which was used by the French and American armies during WWI. The Americans nicknamed him “the King of shooting” cause he won in 1900 “Military Pistol, National, Open” aka “King of Shooting, Pistol” event, cf.
