Joe Laporte competed for Canada at the 1924 and 1928 Olympics in the road race. Between Olympics, he was Canadian road champion from 1924-28. He then turned professional and rode a few six-day events, winning his first one in Montréal in 1930 with Jan van Kempen as his partner. Laporte rode the event again in 1931, partnered by Reggie McNamara, finishing sixth as a team. Laporte also competed in the 1931 Québec-Montréal race, and a few other six-days until his retirement from competitive cycling after the 1933 season.
