Biography

Lajos Látó emerged as a talented youth competitor in Előre in 1947, then moved to Danuvia, and then in 1951, briefly transferred to Vörös Meteor. In 1954 Látó transferred again, this time to Bp. Kinizsi, which became Ferencvárosi Torna Club again at the end of 1956. In 1951 he achieved a Hungarian record in the 20 km. In 1952, with István Láng, he achieved Hungarian records in the 40 km and 50 km tandem.

Látó participated in the 1952 Olympics where he was entered as a track competitor in the road race and finished unplaced. It is not known exactly what was behind the decision that the road team, which was preparing in the training camp, could not travel to Helsinki. In the absence of road racers, three track racers –Látó, Lang, and István Schillerwein – started from those who were trying to earn the trust of the delegation.
