Al Loftes was from Providence in 1912. He was one of the last Americans to make the U.S. team as he finished 11th in the final trials. However at Stockholm he finished 11th overall and second among the U.S. riders. Loftes later moved to Newark, New Jersey where he rode professionally for several years. He then worked as a commercial fisherman until his retirement in 1955.
