Biography

René Lotz was a Dutch road cyclist who had a brief career spanning from 1957 to 1961. In 1957 Lotz won the Liège-Vierset-Barse amateur race in Belgium, in addition to having several podium finishes in races at home. He continued to have some success in races in the Netherlands before recording his best result in 1960 when he won the overall classification at the Tour of Austria. The win earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1960 Roma Games, where he just missed out on a medal after the Netherlands finished fourth in the 100 kilometres team time trial. One year later Lotz turned professional, with him riding in the Vuelta a España, but he was forced to withdraw from the race.
