Biography

Roger Ludwig was a cyclist from Luxembourg who had a brief career in the early 1950s. In 1951 Ludwig won the opening stage of the Flèche du Sud stage race before finishing third overall in the general classification. One year later he won the race outright, in addition to finishing second in the national cyclo-cross championships. In 1952 the UCI Road World Championships were held in Luxembourg, with Ludwig finishing third in the amateur road race. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the Helsinki Games where he placed 14th in the individual road race in a small group of riders just over five minutes behind the winner. Ludwig was later honoured with the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
