Austrian road cyclist Rudolf Mitteregger participated in the individual road race at the 1972 München and 1976 Montréal Olympics. He came 71st and 51st respectively. With the Austrian 100 km time trial team he placed tenth and 15th at those two Games.
In 1970, 1974, and 1977 Mitteregger won the Austria Tour, as well as the Lower Austria Tour in 1970. During the Austria Tours he was the four-time winner of the prestigious Grossglockner High Alpine Road stage. In 1979 he won the national pairs time trial title with Johann Summer. By profession, Mitteregger was a soldier and sports administrator in his home club RC Rapso Knittelfeld.
