Trần Văn Nen was a South Vietnamese national cycling champion from 1952–53 when he won a government-sponsored 1,000 mile race from Hanoi to the bottom of the Mekong river delta near Hồ Chí Minh City (then known as Saigon). He was one of his country’s five representatives in the cycling events at the 1964 Olympics in Roma, competing on both the road and track. Trần later worked as a hotel porter in Saigon in the 1970s, where he continued to compete in local cycling events.
