After finishing runner-up in 1939 and 1945, as well as third in 1942, Børge Saxil Nielsen finally won the Danish amateur road race championship in 1947. That same year Nielsen also finished third in the Tour of Sweden to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. At the London Games he competed in the road race but failed to finish the course. He continued to ride for a few more years, winning a team gold in track cycling at the 1949 Nordic Championships and competing in the Peace Race in 1950.
