In 1919 Norwegian cyclist Olaf Nygaard won the Tour of Hadeland before becoming the national road race champion the following year. These results earned Nygaard a place on the Olympic team for the 1920 Antwerpen Games where he finished 35th in the road race. From 1928 to 1932 he served as the President of the Norwegian Cycling Federation, also working as a referee at the 1931 World Cycling Championships. Away from cycling Nygaard worked as a foreman at a workshop that built locomotives for the Norwegian State Railway.
