Hans was the brother of Godtfred Olsen, both of whom competed in the individual road time trial at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. But unlike his brother, Hans did not finish the race. In 1909, Olsen won the Danish road race championship.
Olsen later joined the Danish Bicycle Clubs Tourists (DBCT) and regularly took part in the club’s traditional Nordsjællandstur (North Zealand Tour). His final recorded participation was in 1952 at the age of 67, after which he was made an honorary member of the club.
Olsen worked as a master bricklayer and was married to Anna Marie Jensine Petersen.
