Biography

Claude Francis “Rusty” Peden was a Canadian cyclist who represented the Maple Leaf Wheelmen in Toronto during the 1930s. In 1936 Peden won the national mile title on the track and was selected to compete at the Olympics later that year. At the Berlin Games he competed in the road race where he finished the course, but his time was not recorded. Rusty’s cousin Torchy was one of the early greats of Canadian cycling, and another cousin Doug was a true all-round sportsman who won silver in basketball at the Berlin Olympics.
