Vitaly Petrakov was a track racer who specialized in riding the team pursuit as a member of the Soviet Union team. In addition to his Olympic gold (1980) and silver (1976) medals in this event, he won four silver medals in the event at the World Championships, placing second in 1975, 1978-79, and 1981. Petrakov was Soviet champion in the team pursuit in 1976 and 1978-79, and in the six-day pairs race in 1977, and the six-day team race in 1978.
