In 1928 the Polish road championships were held using an unusual format with each cyclist covering 200 kilometres individually against the clock. Józef Popowski, representing WTC Warszawa, finished third in the race to earn himself a spot on the Olympic team. At the Games in Amsterdam he finished down in 61st place, more than one hour behind the race winner. It was Popowski’s only year as a competitive cyclist, with him giving up the sport shortly after the Games.
