Biography

As a young boy Milan Puzrla played football and hockey but his real talent was as a cyclist where he went on to represent Czechoslovakia for 12 years. For most of his career Puzrla rode on the track with him winning his first national title in 1964 in the team pursuit in Praha. His triumphs included 14 national titles in the individual and team pursuit, along with titles in the road team time trial, with a further nine silver and four bronze medals. Puzrla had success at the World Championships with bronze in the team pursuit in 1965 and 1966, before winning silver in the team time trial in 1970 at Leicester, England, with Frantisek Rezáč, Petr Matoušek, and Jiří Mainuš.

Puzrla represented Czechoslovakia at three Olympic Games; twice on the track, and once on the road. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics he finished fifth in the 4,000 metres team pursuit with Jiří Daler, Pavel Kondr, and František Řezáč. Four years later he finished 16th in the individual pursuit at the 1972 München Games. His final Olympic appearance came at Montréal in 1976 where he switched to the road to finish fifth in the 100 kilometres team time trial. After his professional career Puzrla worked as a coach.
