Jängy Schmit was active in both road racing and cyclo-cross. In the latter discipline, he won eight Luxembourgish national titles, from 1955 through 1961 and again in 1963 and 1965. Internationally, his best finish was a fifth place in the 1959 World Championships. Earlier in his career, he had been more active in road racing. As an amateur, he placed 4th in the Tour of Austria (and won two stages), and competed in the 1952 Olympics. Turning pro in 1953, he raced three times in the Tour de France, finishing only in 1953 (72nd).
