Besides his 1952 Olympic team pursuit bronze medal, Ron Stretton from Norwood Paragon Cycling Club also won the 1953 British amateur team pursuit title. In July 1955 he emigrated to Canada and became a Canadian citizen in 1978. By profession Stretton was structural draftsman.
