Cyclist Rudi Valenta won the 1946 road race Wien (Vienna) – Graz – Wien (Vienna) and in 1948 won both the Round Vienna and the Round Prealps races. He was therefore selected for the 1948 London Olympics. At the Games, Valenta was the only one of the four Austrian riders to finish the road race, in 14th place. Consequently, the team was unplaced. Directly after the Games he turned professional.
In 1950 and 1951, Valenta won the national professional road race title, and the Wien (Vienna) – Graz – Wien (Vienna) road race. He retired in 1952 and wrote his autobiography Kampf um den Goldpokal (Fight for the Golden Cup), published in 1956.
