Peter Rauchfuß

Peter Rauchfuß was one of East Germany’s most prolific handball referees and was in charge of matches at four consecutive editions of the Olympics, from 1976 through 1988. This, as well as his work at nine World Championships, contributed to his 350 refereed international matches, which was in addition to his hundreds of matches at the domestic level. He retired from refereeing in 1990, but remained active administratively, serving on reunified Germany’s handball federation referee commission for nearly a decade and a half and as a delegate to the European Handball Federation from 2000 through 2008. By career, he worked as a public relations and event manager at a brewery.
