Dean, brother of Olympic mountain biker Rob Woods, was a three-time track cycling Olympian. He won the gold medal with the Australian pursuit team at Los Angeles in 1984 and two more bronze medals in 1988 and 1992. He also earned the silver medal in the individual pursuit in 1988 at Seoul. At the Commonwealth Games he won an additional five medals - three gold, one silver and one bronze - in 1986 and 1994. He later owned a bicycle shop and died in 2022 after a long battle with cancer at the age of only 55 years. In 1985 he was awarded the Order of Australia medal for service to cycling.
