Biography

Daniel Yuste was the only Spanish cyclist to compete on the track at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. He finished 13th in qualifying for the individual pursuit, missing out on a place in the last eight. On 8 June 1965 Yuste broke the Spanish 5km record with a time of 6:10.64, and the following year had his best win as an amateur when he captured the Tour of Segovia. He was fourth in the 1968 national amateur road race championships, and the following year turned professional. He spent two years in the paid ranks, 1969 and 1970, firstly with GD Pepsi of Spain, and then the Italian team Ignis. In the first year, he won both the national individual pursuit and Madison titles, the latter with José Gómez Lucas. Daniel Yuste died in 2020, and was the first known death of an Olympian from the coronavirus pandemic.
