During the 1900s, Jack Flett was considered the best defense lacrosse player in the city of Winnipeg. Although not part of the Shamrock Lacrosse Club when it won the 1903 Manitoba Provincial Championship, he did join them at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, where they earned an Olympic gold medal by overcoming the St. Louis Amateur Athletic Association 8-2. Following his athletic career, he travelled to British Columbia where he had career in provincial government that lasted a quarter-century and included a nearly two-decade stint on the province’s film censorship board. He was also an accomplished musician. His brother Rod won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Winnipeg Victorias in 1896, 1901, and 1902 and his brother Magnus won it on the same team in 1901 and 1902. Jack was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, along with the rest of his gold medal-winning team, in 2004, whereas Rod is a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
