Austrian field hockey half-back Alfred Knoll participated at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. The team lost the quarter-final 4-0 to the eventual gold medallists India, and were classified fifth. His brother Hermann was also on the 1952 field hockey team, and additionally participated as an ice hockey player at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo and 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics.
