In contrast to the previous Olympics, the hockey tournament of 1952 was conducted as a single-elimination tournament. The top four teams of London were again seeded. They started competition only in the quarter-finals, and all four reached the semi-finals. Pakistan, which featured Latif-ur Rehman, Olympic champion with India in 1948, lost to the Dutch, while Britain’s second Olympic encounter with former colony India again ended in a loss. The final belonged to Balbir Singh Dosanjh, flagbearer of the Indian team in Helsinki. He scored five of his team’s six goals in the final, reaching a total of 9 for the tournament.
